Marisa Coulter


Never one to shy away from a conversation and always a problem solver, Marisa found that interpersonal communication was her sweet spot. Making the decision to pursue her path in Public Relations was a logical next step as Marisa began charting her career plans.

Marisa kicked started her career at Hawthorne shortly after its inception. From Intern to Account Manager, she took on progressive roles and responsibilities during her first few years. With a passion for supporting clients that make a difference, Marisa managed clients in economic development, healthcare, and the public sector. Among her accomplishments during this time, she is most proud of driving engagement for Get Covered Illinois, a $35 million-dollar public education program, by leading the small business and insurance broker communications efforts. This included managing a partnership co-marketing program between the State of Illinois and independent insurance brokers that became a national model for engagement around the Affordable Care Act.​

She eventually decided she wanted to experience the corporate client side and began working for BMO Harris Bank, first in Change Management, then as a Corporate Communications Manager. During her time at BMO, Marisa effectively managed program and executive communications strategy, while using her keen eye for detail and analytics to optimize and refresh employee communications vehicles and content strategy. An advocate for Diversity and Inclusion programming, Marisa served on the enterprise Corporate Board for the Bank’s young professional organization and played a pivotal role in defining the group’s strategic agenda and revamping their website and communication tools.

After this stint working in-house, Marisa had the itch to return to agency life and she returned to Hawthorne. She is excited to bring her expertise in internal communications strategy, social media, and diversity and inclusion programming to bare for her clients.

Education: Master’s degree in Organizational and Multicultural Communications and bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Advertising with a Graphic Design minor from DePaul University
