Julia Perkins, principal/chief strategist of MBMD, has over 25 years of experience in strategic planning, marketing, community/audience engagement and facilitation. She has an established reputation within the field and is recognized for her expertise in breaking down complex organizational issues, analyzing them, and strategically and creatively developing solutions.
Julia is a certified professional facilitator (CPF) endorsed by the International Association of Facilitators (IAF). Her facilitation style is based on six key principles: active listening, neutrality, assertive probing, synthesizing feedback, maintaining focus, and balancing group dynamics. Perkins also integrates the FoCuSeD (Facilitation of Collaborative useful Solutions embracing Diversity) approach into her facilitation tool kit. The FoCuSeD approach is a holistic facilitation method that emphasizes two parallel tracks: the workshop/retreat processes to build the product, and the development of the emotional group cycle to work together, make decisions and solve problems. For each client, MBMD familiarizes itself with the content issues/areas, but retains a position of neutrality, which is central to IAF’s code of ethics.
Julia holds a B.S. in Marketing Research, DePaul University, and a M.A. in Arts Administration, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has served on numerous local boards that include: Urban Gateways, The South Side Community Art Center, and Global Girls. Julia is a member of the Association for Strategic Planning, IAF, and the National Association of Professional Women, where she was an inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle in 2016.
