Case Study: MPEA - Supporting McCormick Place, North America’s Largest Convention Center



The Challenge: Our client Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA), owns and operates McCormick Place, North America’s largest convention center, the Marriott Marquis Chicago, the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, and the Wintrust Arena. As the agency of record for MPEA we face a wide variety of challenges, whether supporting the CEO and leadership, giving communications direction and support to the sales team, or leading major media events.


The Results: Our team took the communications reins during a challenging time for MPEA. With the start of a massive construction project in 2015, changes in leadership in 2020, and a global pandemic, we have successfully navigated trying times and developed an integrated communications strategy to move the McCormick Place campus forward. With the completion of the construction project in 2017, we launched the McCormick Square brand, which shows MPEA clients that McCormick Place is more than just a convention center; it’s a thriving neighborhood. When the newly appointed CEO took over from her role as CFO, our team assisted her in becoming the voice of MPEA through community engagement and thought leadership opportunities. And finally, as the nation’s largest convention center, McCormick Place is home to massive media events that include dignitaries from all over the world, including Presidents and heads of state, and we support communications efforts for these events.
